Note: If you plan to watch the movie, do not read, lest, you want spoilers. The following are my thoughts on the movie.
![]() I grew up knowing who the “Little Red Riding Hood” is. Since it’s one the children stories our parents used to read us right before bedtime. I remember they even used this story to frighten and prevent me from wandering outside our house during the night, telling me that I might encounter a wolf/ghost if I keep on sneaking out of dark. Now that I’m all grown up, I learned what a riff-raff those tales are. I realized what a gullible kid I was, believing those stories and let them scare me. ![]() You might ask why did I make a senseless introduction for such a movie review. Well to tell you honestly, Little Red Riding Hood and Red Riding Hood are somehow connected because basically, the latter’s idea is based on the former’s. They just added a more drastic touch to avoid the fantasy-immature-boring(for adults) approach that its child version have. The story itself is so flabbergasting and I wonder if a child can bear watching this. It might ruin their childhood because the Valerie(Red Riding Hood, herself) they know is different from the Valerie here. She’s liberated (due to the love scenes) and from the very start of the movie, the director showed that Valerie is not submissive of a daughter. She tends to break the rules that is given to her since she was a child. She knows what she wants and she sticks up to them. They also showed here how doomed their village is. They had to sacrifice an animal once every full moon to be eaten by the monster (wolf) who lurks around there during the time. However, the wolf got saturated with animal meat and finally decided to take human flesh instead. Because of this gruesome scenario, the people decided to hunt and sack it to give an end to the possible future killings that may occur. Basically, the problem revolves around on identifying who the wolf is and as the movie goes by, your mind will impassively participate in guessing who the wolf might be. The movie is very misleading for it may give you faux conclusions about someone. In the movie, there were 3 people that I actually thought of as the culprit (Peter, Strange Boy and Valerie’s Grandmother) but it turned out that I guessed not an inkling of who the real monster is. ![]() I won’t mention the wolf anymore to excite you once you watch it. Promise, it will give you a sense of a pleasant surprise. The movie was ingeniously done. I so love it. P.S. Shiloh Fernandez? God! Why were you introduced to me just only now? LMAO
