Eroticism reaches new dimensions with a gush of big budget pornographic films in 3D!
 In the post-Avatar world, if your visuals are not 3D, you're just not trying hard enough. One segment of the movie industry where they tend to try to be hard enough is pornography and a wave of 3D porn flicks are in the works, beginning with Hong Kong's "3D Zen and Sex" a soft-core take on classic Chinese lit-erotica. Producer Stephen Shui Jr. who made the original "Zen and Sex" 20 years ago, is now working with a US$4 million budget for the 3D version, a rare large sum for a porno. See this video of a press tour with producer Shui at the film set, featuring a giant phallus (WARNING: video contains profane language in Cantonese). And it's not just enterprising Chinese. Other brand name 3D porn films in the works are Hustler's 3D porn parody of Avatar called "This Ain't Avatar XXX", available in September. Tinto Brass, the Italian director of the porn-gore-mega-feast "Caligula" made in 1979 that featured Helen Mirren and Peter O'Toole, has announced plans for a 3D remake. Skin flicks in 3D? Now why didn't they think of that earlier? They actually were thought of earlier, as early as 1969 when a 3D feature called "The Stewardesses" became an unexpected commercial hit in the United States. Porn in 3D soon became a fad, and like any good fad, it died out fast. Details magazine's Eric Spitznagel says 1970s 3D blue movies like "Disco Dolls in Hot Skin" and "The Starlets" were usually "more silly than erotic, unless you enjoyed watching an actor shoot a gigantic sperm projectile directly at you." Moreover, the technology was primitive at the time, and it was eventually abandoned by the industry. Spitznagel also spoke with Lance Johnson, president of hard-core distribution company Bad Girls in 3D, who is most enthusiastic about 3D porn. "It feels like you're looking through a window and there's a lot of depth to it. You really feel like you're there. It's more immersive than regular porn," says Johnson. The DVD market is also poised to benefit from 3D porn as 3D televisions make their way into more consumers' homes. "I think 3D is going to create new life in physical media," Rob Smith, Hustler Video’s director of operations, told Details. "I'm talking about media that exists in your home and is something that you've purchased. “The people buying these 3D televisions need content. They want something to watch. And people like porn."
